Ostrich/Emu Silver Skin from Creston Valley Meats

These came from Creston Valley Meats packed in ziplock bags – about 5 pounds per bag:

These were really easy to separate.  The smell is a little gamey but NOTHING like the ostrich wings!

These are very thin pieces of skin and meat.  There were various sizes of meat some tiny (1″) to probably well over 12″.

Here’s one piece (front, back and side view):

I like the fact that these are not the type of fare typically available to us.

I like the fact that these are super easy to separate and feed.

I do not like how uncomplicated these are.  My fairly inexperienced, non-gulping raw fed dog ate 1/2 pound of this in less than 45 seconds.

I am not a treat maker but I would think (based on the thickness and how they are already cut) that these would be great for those of you who do make treats.

I am on these fence about whether or not I would buy these again simply based on how quickly these can be eaten.

If you have a gulper these would definitely not be for you!

  1. It’s so hard to describe. The smell of ostrich is a bit gamey. Maybe like buffalo mixed with fish?
